Leading heavy-duty equipment suppliers said soft demand for their products in North America weakened third-quarter results.

Ryder System Inc. has launched a new service to deliver diesel fuel to its customers that leverages its national fuel buying power.

Engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. reported net income for the third quarter ended Oct. 2 fell to $289 million, or $1.72 per share, compared with $380 million, or $2.14, in the 2015 period, pointing to the weaker North American truck engine market, among other factors.

U.S. retail sales of Class 8 trucks sank 28.6% in September, even as the vocational segment showed strength and leasing companies anticipated adding trucks, WardsAuto.com reported.

Trailer orders in September fell below 13,000 as the market continues to adapt and reshape itself after a banner 2015, analysts said.
