Snow and ice in the Southeast overnight caused temporary closure of some highways and forced cancellation of thousands of flights in and out of Atlanta on Monday, news services reported.

Connecticut lawmakers have adopted a measure that could net drivers of trucks and cars $75 fines for not removing snow and ice from their vehicles — and fines of as high as $1,250 if ice or snow flies off and causes damage or injury.

A proposal that would allow police to fine drivers of cars and trucks $75 for failing to remove snow and ice from their vehicles has overwhelmingly passed the Connecticut House.
