The federal government’s truck size-and-weight study began taking shape last week as researchers outlined how they plan to assess whether larger trucks affect highway safety, pavement wear and modal shifts.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended by 15 days the deadline for public comment on its proposed enhancements to the display information on the agency’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability program website.

A bill that trucking industry stakeholders have said would ban the registration of new diesel vehicles in the District of Columbia beginning in 2018 was “misinterpreted” by the industry, the city’s environmental legislative director said.
