President Obama announced plans Wednesday to allow expanded oil and natural-gas drilling off the U.S. East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil rose in early trading Monday to near $81 a barrel as the U.s. dollar fell versus the euro, Bloomberg reported.

Oil rose past $81 a barrel early Thursday following the Department of Energy’s weekly report that showed crude supplies increased last week, Bloomberg reported.
