Most trucking companies are expected to post a fifth consecutive quarter of better earnings because freight volumes and rates are rising, but sharply higher fuel prices likely will put a dent in the increases, analysts said.

Swift Transportation Co. said March 29 that its first-quarter earnings will be 5 to 8 cents per share, due to bad weather and high fuel costs at the start of the year.

Ceva Logistics on Monday reported higher revenue and earnings for the fourth quarter and full year.

TransForce Inc., Canada's largest trucking company, said Friday it had a forth-quarter profit of C$35.6 million on higher revenue from its package delivery and specialized service segments, Reuters reported.

Logistics and intermodal firm Hub Group’s fourth-quarter profit jumped 25.7% to $12.5 million, or 34 cents a share, from $10 million, or 26 cents, a year earlier.

Navistar International Corp. boosted its profit forecast, saying it would earn $388 million to $465 million, or $5 to $6 per share, excluding some items, for its fiscal year that ends Oct. 31.

CSX Corp. said Monday its fourth-quarter profit jumped 42% on higher shipments from auto manufacturers and other industrial shippers.
