CHICAGO — Shipper representatives speaking at the McLeod Software User’s Conference 2011 here last week said the most important things a carrier should do are to be on time, provide delivery status and maintain dependable relationships.

Consumer confidence rose this month from its lowest level in almost three years, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index released Friday.

Third-party logistics company C.H. Robinson said it has acquired produce provider Timco Worldwide Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

Third-party logistics provider Saddle Creek Corp. said it is purchasing natural gas trucks for its for-hire fleet.

Quazar Capital Corp. said its brokerage unit, Pioneer Transfer, has been acquired by RFX. Terms were not disclosed.

Andy Marchiano has been recruited as president of global logistics firm Longistics, Research Triangle Park, N.C. Marchiano was previously vice president and general manager of Cooper Leasing Inc., Raleigh, N.C.

Computer Sciences Corp. said it has won a pair of operations and logistics contracts from the U.S. Postal Service. The seven-year pacts have an estimated value of $83 million.
