Hub Group Inc. on April 4 said it purchased Exel Transportation Services, another third-party freight provider, for $83 million to expand its business offerings.

DHL said it is taking the first step toward establishing a delivery fleet in New York City that is powered entirely by alternative fuels, in a move that it said will reduce emissions by at least 50%.

Technology and logistics company Transplace, Frisco, Texas, said it acquired SCO Logistics, a Philadelphia-based third-party logistics company, for an undisclosed sum.

Third-party logistics provider Radiant Logistics, Bellevue, Wash., said it agreed to acquire DBA Distribution Services, a Somerset, N.J. air-freight forwarder, for $12 million in cash and debt.

Phil Gaines was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of YRC Inc., the national less-than-truckload operating subsidiary of YRC Worldwide, the company said.

Building on a surge of replacement demand that began last year, trailer manufacturers received orders for 21,990 new units in February — a 105% year-over-year increase.

Trailer Bridge Inc. reported a fourth-quarter loss of $2.9 million, or 24 cents per share, compared with a profit of $1 million, or 8 cents, a year ago.

Intermodal traffic rose 5.7% last week compared with the same week a year ago, the Association of American Railroads reported.
