Transportation provider UniGroup Inc. has introduced a new logistics company, UniGroup Worldwide Logistics.

Freight brokerage firm Echo Global Logistics is involved in an expansion strategy through acquisition, the CEO of the Chicago-based company said in an interview.

The more than year-long surge in orders for new trailers showed signs of leveling off in June, increasing just 6% from 2010 levels, compared with an overall 65% gain over the first half of 2011, ACT Research Co. said.

FreshStart Logistics, a maker of transportation technology products, is partnering with counterpart Datatrac Corp.

FedEx Corp. said it has completed the acquisition of Mexico’s Servicios Nacionales Mupa S.A de C.V., or MultiPack.

Trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. reported a second-quarter profit compared with a loss a year ago, as trailer sales improved.

Echo Global Logistics said its second-quarter profit grew 50.3% to $2.9 million, or 13 cents per share, compared with $1.9 million, or 9 cents, a year ago.

Logistics firm Expeditors International of Washington said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 5% to $95 million, or 44 cents a share, from $90.3 million, or 42 cents, a year ago.

Old Dominion Freight Line has introduced Vault Logistics, a new third party-logistics provider.
